Campbell’s villain was written to be included as part of The Blue Book V2, a collection of percussion solos composed by several University of Kentucky alumni. The title pays honor to UK percussion professor James Campbell in addition to describing Chad’s hometown of Campbellsville KY.
This piece should be performed with a towel covering half of the snare drum. The cowbell should be placed on the towel without any additional hardware. A flat cowbell, such as a bongo or mambo bell, is strongly recommended since these bells will rest nicely on the drum.
All accented notes on the snare drum should be performed as rim shots, which should result in a high, muted tone as a result of the muffling. The unaccented notes on the snare drum and cowbell should be performed as ghost notes. All unaccented strokes on the cymbals should be played with the tips of the sticks to help balance the light strokes performed on the muted snare drum and cowbell throughout.
